According to a study its estimated that nearly 140,000 hard drives crash in US every week. So, to avoid the risk of losing data, its high time that we find alternative ways to back them up in a secure place. This is where the online storage sites come into picture. Here’ s a look at some of the top sites that offer online storage for your files.

1.    Adrive
Adrive offers 50 gb of free space on signup. The basic option has folder/directory upload feature. You can also share your documents with others. The basic account does not provide encryption facilities. For $5.95/mo you can sign up for signature account for 50gb storage space with additional features like desktop client, SSL encryption of data, 24/7 support. For $13.95/mo you can sign up for a premium account with storage space of your choice from 100gb to 1Tb.

Skydrive  from windows live offers 25 gb of free space. First you need to have a windows live account in order to use Skydrive. The user can create folders , rename the folders and even decide who has access to it. You can share a folder with your friends and they can access your folder by logging in using their Windows Live account. But it doesn’t have a desktop client where you can manage all your files. Everything is done through a browser, and you need to upload each file individually which is frustrating.

3.  Idrive
Idrive offers 2 gb of free space and unlimited storage space for $4.95/month. It has a free desktop client where you can manage your files online. It has automated backup feature where it automatically takes a back up of your documents if they have been modified recently. It also backs up your mapped drives and external hard drives. 4.  Humyo
Humyo gives its users 10gb of free storage. If you sign up for a premium account for $6.99/mo you get 100gb storage with features like fast data transfers with SSL data encryption, automatic backup and sync.

5.  Mozy
Mozy also provides 2 gb of free space once you sign up and create an account with them. It has a desktop client and has automated back up features similar to idrive. You can get additional free space by referring your friends. You get 512mb for every referral.

6.  Dropbox
Drop box gives 2gb of free storage. It has a desktop client and also a iphone app through which you can access all your files. If you edit a file in your home computer and save it, the file will be updated on all the computers where the file is shared. This gives you the freedom to work on any computer and have all the files you need at each computer.
