Led lights on the Powermat indicate whether the device is charging or has been fully charged. Once the device is fully charged it automatically shuts off power to the device to save power.

Currently Powermat is priced at $99, which is affordable. It comes with a universal receiver with 8 tips which supports 8 devices. But the universal receiver can charge only once device at a time which is a drawback. Fun with QR Code

Take a look at the image below.
C:\Users\Rahul\Desktop\qrcode.png
It doesn’t make any sense does it?? Now save this image in your computer and try to decode the information embedded in it. Just go to this link, use the browse option to upload the image and press submit query. What do you see?? Do you see a twitter link? Follow us.
The image above is called a QR code short for Quick Response code. It is a 2D barcode that can store up to 250 characters. Created by a Japanese corporation, it’s widely used in Japan and many other countries for commercial shipment tracking. It’s even used on billboard signs for advertising, visiting cards and to embed just about any information that people might be interested in.  Now you might be wondering how people decode the information embedded in the QR code. There is an application for mobile phone devices that can take a picture of the QR code and decode it instantly. If an url is embedded in the QR code then you will be automatically redirected to the url. This is known as ‘hardlinking or ‘physical world hyperlinking where you embed urls in physical world objects.
These days QR code is used for promotional purposes. Advertisers put QR codes in print media and signs to direct people to their product webpage. Bands put QR codes on the back of their CD cover to give the audience a preview of their songs or purchase concert tickets.
So, QR code is a quick and efficient way of conveying information to people. People can just take a snapshot of the QR code image and go through the details later. There is no need to hurriedly note down a URL of website, or try to remember the phone number from a sign which you will eventually forget. Just take a snap and you will have all the information you need.
You can create your own QR code here: !!

One of the key speakers at the event was Pranav Mistry, the man behind the innovative piece of technology called the ‘Sixth Sense’. Sixth Sense bridges the gap between the real world and the digital world. This small device comprised of a small projector, mirror and a camera has amazing capabilities built into which can all be invoked by hand gestures. You can take pictures by making the camera framing gesture with your hands, project maps on to the nearest surface, check the current time by drawing a circle on your wrist, or draw ‘@’ symbol to check your mail.  The device also analyses the object the person is interacting with and projects more information about it. For example if you are reading a news paper, it projects related videos on the paper.

Pranav Mistry is a tech genius from Gujarat, India currently pursuing PHD at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His innovation is one of the many innovative gadgets to come out of the famous Media Lab at MIT.

Top Free Online Storage Sites

System crashes, hard drive corruption are not new to everyday computer users. We are at high risk of losing sensitive and important data. According to a study its estimated that nearly 140,000 hard drives crash in US every week. So, to avoid the risk of losing data, its high time that we find alternative ways to back them up in a secure place. This is where the online storage sites come into picture. Here’ s a look at some of the top sites that offer online storage for your files.

1.    Adrive
Adrive offers 50 gb of free space on signup. The basic option has folder/directory upload feature. You can also share your documents with others. The basic account does not provide encryption facilities. For $5.95/mo you can sign up for signature account for 50gb storage space with additional features like desktop client, SSL encryption of data, 24/7 support. For $13.95/mo you can sign up for a premium account with storage space of your choice from 100gb to 1Tb.

Skydrive  from windows live offers 25 gb of free space. First you need to have a windows live account in order to use Skydrive. The user can create folders , rename the folders and even decide who has access to it. You can share a folder with your friends and they can access your folder by logging in using their Windows Live account. But it doesn’t have a desktop client where you can manage all your files. Everything is done through a browser, and you need to upload each file individually which is frustrating.

3.  Idrive
Idrive offers 2 gb of free space and unlimited storage space for $4.95/month. It has a free desktop client where you can manage your files online. It has automated backup feature where it automatically takes a back up of your documents if they have been modified recently. It also backs up your mapped drives and external hard drives.
